Excerpt:
"I learned about the family business a little from him, but I mostly used the rules he made for himself as I got older. He never laid them out to me or said in some old-guy talk how a man was supposed to act. I learned the good way. I watched him, listened to how he treated people, to how he let people treat him."
My thoughts:
I enjoyed the story. The writing was a little wonky to me at times but the book is told by Nickel so it makes sense to be written that way. Nickel is a badass little kid! He commands respect from the first page - by children and adults. Nickel does things that the majority of adults can't or won't. He's awesome!
The ending just was. It wasn't a cliffhanger and it didn't really wrap up the story with a nice cushy epilogue. It was what it was. Just another day in the life of Nickel.
